The benefits of online learning

It’s been over a year since the COVID-19 pandemic started. Many things have changed that will probably continue to alter our lives. One of the most significant changes is the transition from learning environments into remote learning from the comfort of our own homes. Although it might have seemed difficult at first to maintain the boundary of work and home, after one year of living this new reality, the truth is that most people have gotten used to this change, and are finding more advantages to the alternative.

Variety

There are countless websites that offer an infinite amount of online courses, covering topics from a huge spectrum of possibilities. If there is anything you want to learn, there is most certainly an online course that will teach it to you.

Flexibility

In the vast majority of these courses, you can learn the material at your own pace, and adapt it to your schedule. You can learn online when you get home from work, or break lessons and study in short quantities. With distance learning, the choice of when to learn is entirely up to you.

Can learn from any place in the world

You can attend any class you are interested in, even if it is happening in the opposite end of the world, all from the comfort of your own home. You can also keep learning if you are travelling, in a coffee shop or in any other setting where you feel more productive.

More learning resources

Different people learn in different ways. Online learning uses many resources – videos, online games or quizzes – that adapt to the needs of each individual student, who sometimes may not be available for in-person classes. By engaging with these small tasks, which are many times more useful than other traditional methods, you can get a better understanding of the content.

Reduced costs

This one may not be the most obvious one, but you are actually saving money: you don’t have to pay for travel expenses, textbooks, or the maintenance of the classroom. Furthermore, online courses are normally shorter in length than in-person classes, meaning you are not only saving money but also time.

Looks good on your CV

It can sometimes be difficult to balance out personal and learning or work life. Managing to complete an online course at the same time that you work or study for university is not easy, and shows self-discipline and motivation. Apart from showing these competences to prospective employers, online learning may help to expand your area of expertise and learn new things, either for personal or work-related reasons.

With the constant improvements in technology, it is no surprise that online learning will become a very important part of the future of education.
